Research Notes: Will Williams, editor of The London Magazine in 1875, writing as a correspondant in Appleton's Journal, says "You may like to know who wrote the long review in the Athenaeum of the 'Memoirs of General William T. Sherman.' It was my friend Major Knollys, the brother of the Prince of Wales' private secretary -- a gallant gentleman, who has seen much service in India, and who is our Inspector-General of Ordnance."
