ENQUIRE Okapi: Enhanced Navigation and Querying at the User Interface for
Retrieval Effectiveness in Okapi
This project, funded by the British Library, took Okapi on from the 1994
project by incorporating a thesaurus into the search process, both for
active searching and for behind-the-scenes processing. A GUI was
developed with the aim of presenting Okapi's rich functionality, without
overloading the user.
Some of the project objectives were to:
- Create a configurable interface for the
Okapi system to serve as a more flexible evaluation facility for the study
of interactive information retrieval;
- Evaluate the retrieval effectiveness of thesaurus navigation and
relevance feedback information for query enhancement;
- Investigate and assess the impact of interactive searching strategies
on users' information seeking behaviour and information needs.
