The data was collected in three locations: the library at the London Business School, computer rooms at the London Business School, and the Unix computer laboratories in the School of Informatics at City University. Participants in the experiment were students and staff from the London Business School and from City University School of Informatics. The database used at the London Business School was their library catalogue consisting of 29,048 short bibliographic records. The database used at City consisted of 314,000 INSPEC records --- science and technology abstracts covering the period 1989 to 1993.
