Summary of Findings

In conclusion, the ENQUIRE project addressed some important issues regarding the nature of user / system interaction in information retrieval. Successful interaction for query reformulation appears to be dependent on resolving the tension between seemingly opposing factors. The ENQUIRE interface does not necessarily represent the only or best solution, but the evaluation demonstrated some of the elements which need to be taken into account in the design of interfaces for highly interactive information retrieval systems.
