Overview: Early Okapi Projects 1983-1990
The Okapi system was first developed at the Polytechnic of Central London
(now Westminster University) with funding from the British Library Research
and Development Department. The early projects can be divided into the
following phases:
- Okapi '84: Designing an Online Public Access Catalogue
- Okapi '86: Word Stemming, spelling correction and cross reference tables
- Okapi '87: A Comparative Evaluation of Two Online Catalogues
- Okapi '88: Query Expansion and Relevance Feedback - laboratory tests
