Unlike previous implementations of Okapi, where users selected documents from a hit-list to get full details, ENQUIRE displayed results in the first instance in the form of full individual records in their ranked order, but giving users an option to view the hit-list. One consequence was that users could avoid making a judgement on a document by returning to the hit-list immediately after viewing.
Table 3 shows the mean number of documents viewed per query and the mean number of positive, negative, and null relevance judgements. The figures in brackets express the number of documents in each category as a proportion of all the documents viewed. INSPEC users looked at fewer documents on average, but made a higher proportion of positive relevance judgements.
